in the wee hours of this morning, i rolled out of bed, put on some clothes, and made my way to the dmv to queue up for what i hoped would be my final road test. much to my dismay, upon my arrival, i observed almost ten other sleepy peeps hanging around the front door - competition for the few walk-in slots available. for the next 1.5 hours, shivering in the chilly victoria morning, i proceeded to eat one banana and read. then when those doors were opened at exactly 7:30, i scrambled to get a ticket number. alas! there were still seven people ahead of me, and i settled down for the long haul of a wait. yet a mere two hours later, my name was called, and i took wally (my pudgy, somewhat scary-looking examiner) out for a drive.
after 45 minutes on the road, with no tears and little sweat, we returned and my lack of sleep was rewarded with my class 5 license. after years of toiling under learner's and then novice licenses per BC's graduated licensing program, my lifelong dream of having my very own full driver's license to go wherever with whomever i please...has finally come true.
so keep heart, friends. let my story encourage you to never give up on your dreams.
